Summary

When people are interacting with each other, they are continuously giving and receiving wordless signals. Most people are not aware of this. Experts have found that every day we respond to thousands of nonverbal cues and behaviors, including postures, facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, and tone of voice. Nonverbal details reveal who we are and impact how we relate to other people. Many people believe what they say is all they are saying, but a person’s body language often communicates more than the words that are being spoken.

Nonverbal communication can be improved by:
• Developing emotional awareness,
• Raising awareness of one’s body language,
• Learning how to be fully present and focused, and
• Learning how to manage stress.
